It has become necessary to issue a public statement in the face of the news flooding the written and visual media about Rize İkizdere Cevizlik Quarry.

The “Rize İyidere Logistics Port” project contracted out by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be realized by Cengiz İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. and Yapı ve Yapı İnşaat Taahhüt Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi Business Partnership, the winning bidder for this project.

The physical conditions at the project site and the location where the port will be constructed require filling work at the port area. The filling material to be used needs be seawater-resistant.

To this end, the project owner conducted research and surveys, as a result of which they located suitable quarries. Reserve estimations and durability studies confirmed that İkizdere Cevizlik Quarry met the requirements, and a raw material production permit was obtained from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs.

Following the completion of all legal permit procedures, start was given to the construction of “Rize İyidere Logistics Port”. Please note that in this whole process, the selection of the quarry from which raw material will be legally supplied was not within the power or at the disposal of our company but was selected by the Ministry at their sole discretion. All alternative quarries from which raw material could have been potentially supplied have been elaborated by the Ministry from the very beginning, taking into account their potential environmental impact.

We would like it to be known that the opinions of everyone living in the region is addressed by our company with due sensitivity and respect. Once productions are completed and the required amount of raw material is supplied, the quarry will be restored by our company in due manner. Claims alleging that there had been mineral exploration work going on at the quarry and that the quarry would be used for different purposes are baseless, as after the supply of raw materials limited to “Rize İyidere Logistics Port” is completed, we shall restore the existing natural flora at the site with plants and afforestation.
